MR. Broadway Kosher Restaurant

At Mr. Broadway, we are inspired by not one, but two iconic legacies that have shaped our identity. Though each strand has followed its own course, both share an unwavering commitment to quality, kashrus, community, and innovation.

A Tradition Begins

In the era of Vaudeville—when Broadway was bustling with shows and restaurants and the gourmet center was at its heyday—R. Gross opened its doors to serve delicious, home-style dairy dishes to the thousands of New Yorkers and visitors seeking an authentic kosher dairy experience.

At about the same time, Lou G. Siegel’s was serving sumptuous meat dishes and catering for parties and events to a growing audience of kosher consumers. With signature offerings like kreplach, matzah ball soup, flankin, knishes, and an array of amazing side dishes, it became the go-to destination for great kosher meat cuisine.

A New Chapter in Kosher Excellence

As the kosher culinary scene evolved, R. Gross was succeeded by Chez-Lanu at its location on 1372 Broadway. Meanwhile, Lou G. Siegel’s evolved into Ben’s Deli, elevating the deli experience with delicious dishes for the broader Jewish community.

Mr. Broadway Emerges: Tradition Reimagined

As the years rolled on, the spirit of our two legacies began to converge. Between 2000 and 2011, a new name was introduced to the neighborhood—Mr. Broadway was born.

What started as a modest Mediterranean menu evolved into an eclectic blend of deli, Mediterranean, American, sushi, and bar offerings. This transformation captured the hearts of locals and earned recognition across glatt kosher Jewish communities worldwide.

Rebirth at 38th Street: Where Histories Converge

In 2023, as New York’s restaurant scene rebounded from challenging times, we embraced a bold new era. Moving to 38th Street, the old Mr. Broadway took over the historic Ben’s Deli—a space that carries the indelible spirit of Lou G. Siegel.

At this pivotal moment, the past and present meet: the rich legacy of R. Gross and time-honored traditions converge in a setting reimagined for the current era.
